WE SANG AND DANCED ROUND THE WORLD
“Around the World in 80 Minutes” took people on a trip across the continents in a variety show featuring songs, comedy sketches and several spectacular dance numbers.

This was a chance for our junior members and dancers to really strut their stuff, ably assisted by the adult members.
The action centred around a young girl (played by 10-year-old Jasmine Jewell),who was really excited at her forthcoming holiday. However, she was not sure where her family were going to take her, so she imagined all manner of destinations with the aid of her mother (played by Jo Whittock) and her map of the world.
Countries on the tour included India, France, Sweden (did someone say Abba?), Russia and Spain, land of flamenco and bullfights – Roger Bird in a matador’s costume, anyone? Travel was via China for a spectacular encounter with a dragon, France for some Café René culture and a couple of songs from Les Miserables, then to Austria where the hills were alive with the sound of slap-dancing and the Von Trapps! Far-flung destinations Australia and Canada provided the opportunity for some classic comedy and an alternative take on a well-known song! Egypt brought two very different but spectacular dance numbers, one featuring some of our adult female members, the other our very energetic and talented young dancers! The UK was on the itinerary of course, with an unusual sketch and some great songs. Jo Jewell – who has choreographed our recent shows to great acclaim – directed, assisted by Radio Bristol’s John Ford.

“Around the World in 80 Minutes” was on stage at the Conygre Hall this week for two nights: Friday 8th and Saturday 9th April at 7.30pm.
Thank you to all people who bought tickets for this production. We value your custom and hope you enjoyed our show as much as we enjoyed producing it for you.
